During the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus in Kuala Lumpur, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored the importance of a free and inclusive Indo-Pacific, free from coercion, particularly against the backdrop of China’s assertive military actions. He advocated for collective security among nations, emphasizing adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to protect regional interests. Singh highlighted India’s long-term, principle-driven engagement with ASEAN, aiming to enhance cooperation in diverse areas including cyber threats and resource management. This dialogue not only reinforces India’s commitment to regional stability but also positions it as a key player in shaping an ASEAN-led security architecture amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
