Putin to discuss India-Russia strategic partnership and defense ties.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India from December 4 to 5, where he will engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning their privileged strategic partnership. The agenda encompasses critical topics such as defense procurement, notably India’s intention to acquire additional S-400 surface-to-air missile systems, energy cooperation, and broader geopolitical issues, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. India has maintained its defense ties with Russia, while also diversifying its military suppliers, having invested significantly in U.S. arms recently. Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh emphasized the importance of timely deliveries of military equipment and the need for clarity on these issues during the talks. Amid complex international sanctions impacting energy procurement, Russia’s offer of further discounts on crude oil is expected to be a significant point of negotiation. This visit underscores the resilience of India-Russia relations at a pivotal moment in global politics, facilitating dialogue on mutual concerns and reaffirming India’s commitment to its strategic autonomy in defense and foreign policy.
