Pentagon plans ban on indirect ties to Chinese defense firms by 2027.

The US Pentagon is set to enforce a ban on companies with indirect links to blacklisted Chinese military firms, as outlined in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. Beginning June 2026, the Department of Defense will prohibit direct contracts with these entities, with a full indirect procurement ban effective by June 30, 2027. This initiative aims to eliminate vulnerabilities in defense supply chains and reflects a broader strategy to counter China’s military-civil fusion approach. For India, this shift presents an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and diversify supply chains in critical defense technologies, enhancing regional resilience against Chinese influence in strategic sectors.
