Pakistan reopens Torkham border for Afghan repatriation amid ceasefire.

Pakistan has reopened the Torkham and Chaman border crossings, facilitating the repatriation of Afghan refugees after a suspension since October 11. Approximately 10,700 Afghan nationals returned to Afghanistan in a single day, with ongoing efforts aiming to repatriate around 1.56 million Afghans under Pakistan’s plan to reduce undocumented migrants. While refugee movements have resumed, bilateral trade remains on hold until security stabilizes. Diplomatic talks mediated by Turkey and Qatar have extended the ceasefire agreement, emphasizing the importance of a monitoring mechanism to prevent future border tensions. This development underscores the ongoing geopolitical dynamics in South-Central Asia, highlighting the need for stability amid humanitarian and economic challenges.
