Pakistan creates 'Commander of Defence Forces' role to enhance military coordination amid security reforms.
Pakistan is set to establish a new position of ‘Commander of Defence Forces’ (CDF) as part of its defense reforms aimed at enhancing coordination among its military branches. This initiative arises from lessons learned during recent military engagements with India, particularly following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor. The reforms include proposed amendments to Article 243 of the Constitution, which governs military command. Amidst these developments, Pakistan’s government is also considering promoting Army Chief General Asim Munir to Field Marshal, reflecting a strategic shift in military leadership. This restructuring underscores Pakistan’s response to evolving security challenges and aims to improve its defensive posture against perceived threats, particularly from India.
