Oil Minister Puri Defends India's Legal Russian Oil Purchases

India’s Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has defended the country’s increased purchases of Russian oil, asserting that these transactions are legal and have stabilized global markets amid the Ukraine conflict. He dismissed claims by former Trump aide Peter Navarro, who accused India of acting as a “laundromat” for Russian crude, emphasizing that India complied with G-7 price cap systems. Puri highlighted that India has been a major petroleum exporter long before the war and has taken measures to shield its citizens from fluctuating prices. His remarks underline India’s strategic role in global energy security during times of crisis, reinforcing its commitment to legal and ethical trade practices.
