NSCN (IM) chief Th Muivah has returned to his native village Somdal in Manipur’s Ukhrul district after a 50-year absence, amid ongoing ethnic violence in the region. His arrival was marked by a significant turnout of locals, including traditional celebrations, as he is a pivotal figure in Naga peace negotiations with the Indian government. Muivah, who has been instrumental in the peace talks since the NSCN (IM) ceasefire in 1997, plans to stay in Somdal for a week before heading to Dimapur. This visit occurs during a critical period of unrest in Manipur, highlighting the fragile state of peace and the importance of dialogue in resolving long-standing conflicts in the region.
