Northern Cyprus Leader Criticizes India and Israel’s Military Ties
Ziya Ozturkler, Speaker of the Assembly of Northern Cyprus, criticized India and Israel for their military cooperation with Cyprus, particularly regarding India’s offer of the BrahMos missile, viewing it as a provocative move that threatens regional stability and Turkish influence. This collaboration, including Israel’s defense systems, is perceived as part of a strategy to counter Turkey’s ambitions in the Eastern Mediterranean. Ozturkler argued that such partnerships exacerbate tensions amid existing disputes over maritime boundaries and resources, emphasizing that they challenge the sovereignty of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is recognized only by Turkey. India’s engagement aligns with its broader Mediterranean strategy, strengthening ties with nations concerned about Turkey’s assertiveness.
