Modi and Takaichi strengthen India-Japan ties at G20 Summit.

At the G20 Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held their inaugural in-person meeting, reinforcing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in defence, economic security, innovation, and trade, with both leaders underlining the importance of a strong bilateral relationship for regional and global stability. Takaichi highlighted Japan’s commitment to fostering innovation in semiconductors and artificial intelligence, while Modi emphasized the need for concrete collaboration in these critical areas, building on the Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade. Notably, Japan is poised to invest approximately 10 trillion yen in India over the next decade, targeting advancements in semiconductor manufacturing and digital infrastructure, alongside joint initiatives in clean energy and research. This meeting signifies a pivotal moment for India-Japan relations, marking a commitment to a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” and positioning both nations as key partners in addressing global challenges and ensuring economic security.
