Modi and Jordan's King discuss trade, minerals, and nuclear cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Jordan marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. During the two-day visit, Modi and King Abdullah II engaged in productive talks, unveiling an eight-point vision to enhance cooperation in sectors such as trade, agriculture, technology, defense, and civil nuclear energy. They signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focused on renewable energy, digital technology, and water resource management, emphasizing a shared commitment to sustainable development and technological collaboration. Modi’s discussions also highlighted Jordan’s interest in joining the International Solar Alliance, reflecting India’s leadership in global solar initiatives. The visit underscores India’s proactive approach in the Middle East, leveraging its historical ties with Jordan to bolster economic and security ties, especially in areas critical to India’s strategic interests, such as counter-terrorism and supply chain security. With robust trade links, particularly in fertilizers where Jordan is a key supplier, the engagement sets the stage for deepened partnerships that align with India’s broader geopolitical strategy and its role as a responsible global leader in sustainable development.
