External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Canada, engaging in high-level discussions with foreign ministers from Germany, France, Brazil, and the UK to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance India’s strategic partnerships. The dialogues focused on various areas, including trade, technology, defense, and climate action, reiterating India’s commitment to amplifying the voice of the Global South in international policymaking. Notably, Jaishankar and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reaffirmed the “India-UK Vision 2035,” designed to deepen cooperation across key sectors over the next decade, emphasizing economic growth, innovation, and security collaboration. This meeting comes in the wake of a renewed India-Canada bilateral relationship following previous strains, marked by significant engagements such as the July 2025 meeting between Prime Ministers Modi and Carney, highlighting the importance of sustained diplomatic efforts to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Overall, Jaishankar’s participation not only underscores India’s proactive role in global diplomacy but also reflects its strategic ambition to forge robust international coalitions amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
