Indian Ambassador and Myanmar's SSPC Member discuss military ties and regional stability.
State Security and Peace Commission Member and Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin received Ambassador Abhay Thakur at Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw on 15 December 2025, where both sides discussed traditionally friendly defence ties and reiterated that India and Myanmar are good neighbours. The talks covered enhanced cooperation between the two armed forces to bolster security, stability and rule of law along the sensitive India–Myanmar border, including deeper engagement in military training and exchanges. Myanmar reaffirmed its adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and flagged development prospects following its multiparty democratic elections, while India, facing Chinese influence and insurgent activity along the frontier, is expected to leverage such defence outreach to secure its Northeast and advance its Act East policy
