India sends 80 NDRF personnel and aid to flood-hit Sri Lanka.
India has launched Operation Sagar Bandhu to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which has caused significant devastation, resulting in over 123 fatalities and displacing thousands. As part of the operation, an Indian Air Force IL-76 aircraft transported 80 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with essential rescue equipment and supplies, while a C-130J aircraft delivered additional humanitarian aid totaling 27 tonnes, including food, tents, and hygiene kits. The Indian Navy’s INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri also contributed by delivering 6.5 tonnes of rations. This coordinated effort underscores India’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First policy, showcasing its role as a first responder in the Indian Ocean region during natural disasters. The Indian High Commission has established an emergency help desk to assist Indian citizens in Sri Lanka, reflecting India’s proactive approach to regional cooperation and solidarity in times of crisis.
