India seeks enhanced Russian support for indigenous defense technologies.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh communicated India’s commitment to enhancing indigenous defence capabilities during a meeting with Russian counterpart Andrei Belousov, coinciding with President Vladimir Putin’s state visit. The discussions, part of the 22nd India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation, emphasized collaboration on niche technologies and upgrades of existing weapon systems, including the S-400 air defence system. Both nations reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and strategic partnership, with Russia expressing readiness to assist India in achieving self-reliance in defence production. Notable projects discussed included enhancements to BrahMos missiles and longer-range air-to-air missiles for India’s Su-30 MKI and MiG-29 aircraft, underscoring significant advancements in bilateral military cooperation.
