India offers $450 million aid to support Sri Lanka's cyclone recovery efforts.
India has proposed a $450 million assistance package to aid Sri Lanka’s recovery following Cyclone Ditwah, as announced by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to Colombo. This package includes $350 million in concessional credit and $100 million in grants, focusing on infrastructure repair and economic stabilization. Jaishankar emphasized India’s role as the first responder and highlighted the urgency of support amid Sri Lanka’s ongoing challenges from a prior economic crisis. This initiative aligns with India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and promote economic recovery through enhanced tourism and foreign direct investment, while countering external influences in the region.
