India Asks Russia to Free 27 Indians in Military Recruitment

India has urged Russia to release 27 Indian nationals reportedly recruited into the Russian military amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern over the safety of these individuals, noting that the situation is complicated by reports of Indians being coerced into military roles while on student or business visas. This call for action follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous discussions with Russian authorities on the matter. With over 150 Indians now involved with the Russian military, and several fatalities reported, India’s proactive stance highlights its commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad and underscores the geopolitical complexities involved in the India-Russia relationship amidst the war.
