India and Vietnam commit to enhancing defense cooperation and partnership.
India and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation during the 15th India-Vietnam Defence Policy Dialogue held in Hanoi. Co-chaired by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lt Gen Hoang Xuan Chien, the discussions led to the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement on Mutual Submarine Search and Rescue Support and Cooperation, as well as a Letter of Intent to enhance collaboration in the defence industry. The dialogue underscored the progress made in areas such as hydrography, capacity building, and training, while also addressing emerging domains like cybersecurity and real-time information exchange. Both nations expressed satisfaction with their ongoing defence partnership, viewed as a crucial component of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and India’s Act East Policy, which emphasizes regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region. This cooperation not only reflects the growing strategic ties between India and Vietnam but also aims to counter regional security challenges, thereby enhancing the overall security framework in the area.
