India and Nepal will commence the 19th edition of their annual bilateral military exercise, Suryakiran, from November 25 to December 8, 2025, in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. This joint exercise aims to strengthen operational synergy between the Indian and Nepali armies in jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations within mountainous terrain. Emphasizing the integration of niche technology, the exercise enhances interoperability and facilitates the sharing of best practices. The event further solidifies defence cooperation, mutual trust, and camaraderie, reflecting the longstanding strategic partnership and mutual commitment to regional peace and security. The exercise is conducted alternately in India and Nepal each year; the 18th edition took place at Saljhandi, Nepal, from December 31, 2024, to January 13, 2025. The ongoing cooperation also contributes to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness, vital for the Indo-Nepal border region’s stability and security.
