Geopolitics and Security Alliances

India and Canada launch strategic framework to boost trade and investment relations.

India and Canada are advancing their bilateral relations through a newly unveiled strategic framework aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, critical minerals, energy, and civil nuclear collaboration. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, in discussions with Canadian counterpart Anita Anand, emphasized the importance of a positive mindset in restoring ties following previous tensions exacerbated by allegations surrounding the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Since the election of Prime Minister Mark Carney, both nations have initiated measures to reinvigorate their partnership, as highlighted by Prime Minister Modi’s talks with Carney at the G7 summit. This framework reflects a shared vision of complementary economies and a commitment to sustainable cooperation, underscoring the significance of strong Indo-Canadian relations in the context of global geopolitical shifts.
