India allows Pakistan airspace use for Sri Lanka aid, rejecting denial claims.
India has granted Pakistan permission to use its airspace for humanitarian aid flights to cyclone-hit Sri Lanka, processing the request within just four hours on Monday. This rapid approval, communicated through official channels, underscores India’s commitment to regional cooperation and humanitarian assistance, despite Pakistan’s previous ban on Indian airlines’ overflight. Reports from Pakistani media claiming India denied airspace access were categorically dismissed by Indian officials as baseless and misleading. The urgent aid operation, named Operation Sagar Bandhu, has already delivered a total of 53 tons of emergency supplies, including food, medical supplies, and a specialized Urban Search and Rescue team, to support relief efforts in Sri Lanka, which has experienced severe flooding and loss of life due to Cyclone Ditwah. This gesture exemplifies India’s strategic prioritization of humanitarian concerns in a geopolitically sensitive environment, reflecting its role as a responsible regional partner amidst emerging crises.
