India Acknowledges China's Brahmaputra Dam Construction Plans

India has acknowledged reports of China constructing a mega dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River, which is the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra. The Indian government monitors developments on this trans-border river and emphasizes the necessity for transparency and consultation from China to protect the interests of downstream countries. Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh highlighted ongoing diplomatic discussions and mechanisms in place since 2006 to address these concerns and stressed the importance of cooperation on hydrological data sharing. India remains committed to safeguarding the livelihoods of its citizens affected by such upstream activities, demonstrating a proactive stance on regional water security.
