IAF's Su-30 MKIs Simulate Attacks on UK Carrier HMS Prince of Wales
The Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30 MKIs and Jaguars showcased their formidable capabilities during Exercise Konkan 2025 by simulating attacks on the British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales. Amidst complex maritime exercises off India’s western coast in early October, the Indian fighters conducted multiple mock airstrikes and dogfights against six Royal Navy F-35B stealth fighters guarding the carrier. Supported by the Il-78 ‘Mainstay’ AEW&C platform, the IAF’s Su-30s demonstrated exceptional super-maneuverability and integration with advanced weapons, challenging the F-35s in four dogfights and various mission types. Parallel anti-submarine drills saw British Merlin helicopters and Indian P-8I Neptunes co-operate in submarine hunting, while surface ships practiced coordinated fleet defense and replenishment. The exercise also featured combined carrier operations between India’s INS Vikrant and HMS Prince of Wales, strengthening air and naval interoperability. These drills, conducted from October 5 to 12, highlighted India’s rising air combat and maritime power alongside the UK, reinforcing strategic defense ties and showcasing the Su-30 MKI’s prowess against the technologically advanced F-35s in the Indo-Pacific theater.
