EU initiates Military Schengen to enhance military mobility and response.

On November 19, 2025, the European Union advanced its initiative for a ‘Military Schengen’ aimed at enhancing military mobility across member states by 2027. This initiative intends to streamline troop and equipment movement, reducing transit times significantly, and is supported by a €1.7 billion budget allocation, with an additional request for nearly €18 billion from 2028-2034. The European Commission’s Military Mobility Package includes upgraded infrastructure projects and enhanced response systems, coordinated with NATO to ensure interoperability. This effort responds to geopolitical tensions, particularly with Russia, and underscores the EU’s commitment to strengthening its defense posture and regional security capabilities while facilitating rapid military responses.
