Cuban envoy calls US Venezuela actions terrorism, praises India's global role.

Cuban Ambassador to India Juan Carlos Marsan Aguilera condemned the US military operation on January 3, 2026, that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores on narco-terrorism charges, labeling it a “criminal and terrorist act” violating the UN Charter and international law. Speaking to ANI on January 7 amid damage in Caracas, 32 Cuban deaths, and Havana’s two-day mourning, he decried US revival of the Monroe Doctrine treating Latin America as its “backyard,” urging Global South unity via BRICS—where India holds presidency—NAM, and G77+China to counter unilateralism. From India’s strategic lens, Aguilera praised New Delhi’s balancing role and historical anti-sanctions support for Cuba, aligning with its measured MEA concerns over the crisis while safeguarding strategic autonomy amid Trump-era tensions.
