China to showcase troops and advanced weapons at WWII parade

China is set to stage a grand military parade in Beijing on September 3, 2025, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II, with President Xi Jinping inspecting troops and foreign leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin in attendance. The event will feature tens of thousands of participants, including marching formations, armored columns, and aerial displays with hundreds of aircraft such as fighter jets and bombers, showcasing new domestically produced hardware like strategic heavy weapons, hypersonic precision systems, unmanned platforms, and counter-drone equipment. This display underscores China’s rapid military modernization, highlighted by a 7.2 percent increase in its 2025 defense budget to approximately $245 billion, aimed at enhancing combat readiness and strategic competition amid regional tensions. The 70-minute parade reflects evolving warfare dynamics and China’s push for regional dominance, prompting close monitoring by neighbors like India to maintain balance of power.
