China strengthens Middle East presence.
China’s expanding influence in the Middle East is evident through increased diplomatic, military, and economic engagements. Recently, China and Saudi Arabia conducted the third joint naval exercise, Blue Sword 2025, off the Saudi eastern coast, aimed at enhancing operational readiness and tactical cooperation. China’s security relationship with Middle Eastern countries has strengthened, highlighted by joint military drills, such as the recent naval exercises with Saudi Arabia, and defense sales to regional partners like the UAE, including advanced drones and missile systems. China’s long-term strategy also involves deepening infrastructure investments under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with Middle Eastern nations increasingly pivoting towards China to diversify their international alliances amid shifting US policies. Notably, Beijing’s support for Palestinian causes and involvement in regional energy projects have bolstered its political stature, while engagement in arms sales and security cooperation signifies efforts to establish a strategic presence. As China’s regional footprint grows, many Middle Eastern countries seek to balance relations between China and traditional Western allies, shaping a multi-polar regional order with significant implications for India and beyond.
