Canadian ministers condemn Khalistani protest against Minister Anand, stressing democratic principles.

Canadian ministers have condemned a recent Khalistani protest that targeted Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, describing it as a direct assault on democratic principles. The protest, which featured Khalistani flags and mock executions resembling the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, drew sharp criticism for inciting violence and hate against public officials. This incident occurs against a backdrop of improving India-Canada relations, following strained diplomatic ties after accusations against India regarding the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The heightened tensions prompted Minister Anand’s visit to India in October 2025 to reset bilateral relations, emphasizing the need for accountability and cooperation between the two nations to foster regional stability and counter extremist narratives.
