Afghanistan-Pakistan peace talks end without resolution, escalating tensions.

Peace talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan aimed at establishing a long-term truce concluded in Istanbul without a resolution, according to Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. The discussions faltered as the Afghan delegation reportedly deviated from core issues, with both sides exchanging blame for the impasse. Tensions escalated after recent clashes, including Pakistani airstrikes targeting the Pakistani Taliban, which have reportedly been operating with impunity in Afghanistan. Despite a ceasefire, continued violence has raised concerns, with Pakistan’s Defence Minister warning that the failure to reach an agreement could lead to “open war.” This situation underscores the fragility of security in the region and the challenges in stabilizing relations between the two nations amidst ongoing militant threats.
