Jaishankar advocates global framework to combat biological weapons threats.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has called for the establishment of a global framework to address the potential misuse of biological weapons, emphasizing the urgent need for international cooperation in light of evolving security threats. Speaking at a conference marking 50 years of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), he highlighted the absence of essential institutional structures and compliance mechanisms within the BWC, which could hinder effective governance of bioterrorism risks. Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to advocating for stronger compliance measures and systematic reviews of scientific advancements to ensure that international governance keeps pace with technological innovation. This initiative underscores India’s proactive stance in bolstering global security frameworks to mitigate bioterrorism challenges.
