VRDE unveils advanced unmanned turret module for enhanced combat capabilities.
The Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE), a DRDO laboratory, unveiled an advanced unmanned turret module on October 20, 2025, showcasing significant enhancements in combat capabilities that align with India’s strategic defence modernization efforts. This turret, likely intended for integration into the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) program, is armed with a powerful 30mm Shipunov 2A42 autocannon complemented by a 12.7mm NSVT heavy machine gun. It features an advanced Fire Control System to improve targeting accuracy and operational efficiency. The development signifies a key step in India’s focus on modular unmanned systems, which enhance crew safety and battlefield effectiveness amid ongoing border tensions. This innovation supports the Advanced Armoured Platform project to future-proof Indian armoured vehicles with next-generation technology, reflecting India’s commitment to indigenization and strengthening its defense posture in dynamic combat environments. The turret was demonstrated recently at an event underlining DRDO’s continued drive to equip the Indian Army with cutting-edge armored solutions for various operational theaters.
