India’s newly launched Mission Sudarshan Chakra will utilize the Vertical Launch Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) for robust inner ring defense, enhancing protection for critical infrastructure against low-flying threats like cruise missiles. Developed by DRDO, the VL-SRSAM and its MkII variant promise rapid response and cost-effectiveness, aligning with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The system’s vertical launch capability offers 360-degree coverage and integrates seamlessly with other defense layers. This initiative, spurred by threats during Operation Sindoor in 2025, showcases India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense while safeguarding vital assets such as oil refineries from potential attacks, highlighting the strategic importance of indigenous military technology.
