Vice Chief of Air Staff urges private firms to focus on niche defense areas.
Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari urged private defense firms to concentrate on niche areas of expertise during a recent seminar, advocating for a strategic focus rather than diversification across multiple sectors. He emphasized the importance of developing next-generation systems capable of integrating advanced technologies, including AI and unmanned teaming. Tiwari highlighted the potential for India to become a global defense manufacturing hub, supporting the principle of ‘aatmanirbharta’ by reducing reliance on imports. He also noted the significance of collaboration between the IAF, industry, and academia to foster innovation and address the evolving needs of the armed forces, underscoring the imperative for self-sufficiency in defense production.
