Vamana AUV by Sagar Defence clears trials, set for Navy induction.

Sagar Defence Engineering’s autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), ‘Vamana’, has successfully completed trials with the Indian Navy and is poised for imminent induction into the naval fleet. This AUV represents a significant upgrade in the Navy’s underwater operational capabilities, specifically for mine clearance, surveillance, and reconnaissance, thereby enhancing maritime security amid increasing geopolitical challenges in the Indian Ocean region. Developed under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative, Vamana features advanced sensors and AI-based navigation, improving situational awareness with minimal human intervention. Its induction aligns with India’s broader strategy for naval technological self-reliance, complementing other indigenous advancements in underwater autonomy, which are essential for national security in complex maritime environments.
