Tejas' future remains secure despite Dubai crash, affirms HAL chairman.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Chairman DK Sunil affirmed the safety and reliability of the Tejas light combat aircraft following a tragic crash during an aerobatic display at the Dubai Air Show, which resulted in the death of Wing Commander Namansh Syal. Sunil emphasized that the incident does not reflect issues with the aircraft, asserting that it has an excellent safety record and is a proud example of India’s advanced indigenous defense technology. He acknowledged the significant research and development efforts invested in the 4.5 generation fighter jet and dismissed speculation surrounding the crash as unfounded conspiracy theories. Furthermore, he highlighted HAL’s commitment to expanding its export capabilities, aligning with the Government of India’s goal to establish India as a global player in defense manufacturing. This incident, the second involving the Tejas since its induction into the Indian Air Force a decade ago, underscores the ongoing challenges and scrutiny faced by indigenous defense projects, as well as the strategic importance of self-reliance in defense capabilities amidst a competitive geopolitical landscape.
