Tata to Roll Out Indigenous Light Tank Prototype by Year-End for High-Altitude Warfare
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) is advancing its development of an indigenous Light Tank based on the DRDO’s Zorawar platform, with a prototype expected by year-end. This initiative addresses the Indian Army’s need for lightweight and agile armored vehicles for high-altitude operations, particularly highlighted during the Eastern Ladakh faceoff with China. The Army’s endorsement of the Zorawar and the diversification of development among multiple private firms, including TASL, foster competition and innovation in India’s defense sector. This strategic move aims to fill critical capability gaps and enhance India’s armored warfare readiness, with plans to induct over 350 light tanks in the future under the Make-I category.
