India’s ambitions in defense exports have taken a significant step forward with Tata Advanced Systems Limited commencing production of the advanced Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP 8×8) in Morocco. Jointly designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the WhAP 88 is India’s first amphibious wheeled infantry combat vehicle, featuring advanced capabilities for high mobility and survivability. Recently inaugurated, Tata’s facility in Morocco aims to supply the Royal Moroccan Army and may expand to other markets across Africa. This initiative underscores India’s evolving defense strategy, transitioning from “Make in India” to “Make with Friends,” thereby enhancing strategic ties and showcasing India’s growing role in the global defense landscape. The successful deployment of the WhAP 88 demonstrates India’s capabilities in advanced military technology and strengthens its position as a prominent player in the international defense market.
