Taiwan to receive first MQ-9B drones from the U.S. in 2026.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense announced the upcoming delivery of its first two MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones from the U.S. in the third quarter of 2026, with two additional units expected in 2027. This acquisition, part of a $250 million contract with General Atomics, aims to enhance Taiwan’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities amid increasing Chinese military presence in the region. The drones will be based at Air Force facilities and can be armed for extended missions, contributing to Taiwan’s asymmetric defense strategy and real-time intelligence support. Notably, Taiwan will independently manage the data collected by these UAVs, underscoring its commitment to bolstering national security.
