On October 27, 2025, Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration announced the successful sea trials of the unmanned surface vessel demonstrator, Ran, developed by Maritime Robotics. Conducted over two weeks in Hårsfjärden fjord, the trials focused on assessing the USV’s navigational capabilities and emergency functionalities, as part of a three-year R&D initiative aimed at enhancing Sweden’s naval capabilities through autonomous systems. This project highlights Sweden’s commitment to modernizing its defense assets in response to maritime security challenges in the Baltic Sea, complementing broader investments in advanced naval technologies, including autonomous underwater vehicles and next-generation fighter aircraft.
