Sagar Defence to establish world's first autonomous shipyard in Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh government approved Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt Ltd’s proposal on December 14, 2025, to establish India’s first dedicated autonomous maritime shipyard at Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in SPSR Nellore district, allotting 29.58 acres of land including 7.58 acres waterfront and 22 acres harbour area through the AP Maritime Board. This pioneering facility, touted as the world’s first for autonomous maritime systems, will focus on designing, constructing, testing, and supporting unmanned surface and underwater vessels, sensors, and command technologies, bolstering India’s self-reliance in defense and maritime domains. Construction begins December 2025, with machinery installation by June 2026, trial production in October 2026, and commercial operations from November 2026, expected to create 750 jobs (300 direct) and position Andhra Pradesh as a hub for next-generation maritime innovation.​
