Rolls-Royce ready to produce Arjun tank engines in India, awaiting MoD approval.

On November 23, 2025, Rolls-Royce announced its readiness to produce engines for the Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) domestically in India, pending final approval from the Ministry of Defence (MoD). This initiative is part of a strategic move to enhance India’s defence manufacturing self-reliance by localizing core propulsion systems for the Arjun tank and future land combat vehicles. Rolls-Royce has partnered with two Indian defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and is preparing for full technology transfer, including intellectual property rights, to enable complete local assembly and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. The company is also advancing plans to localize its Series 4000 naval engines within India. This effort supports India’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat defence vision by fostering partnerships with private sector firms and strengthening domestic production capabilities, signifying a major step towards strategic autonomy in armoured vehicle propulsion and defence technology
