Rheinmetall AG and ICEYE have established a strategic joint venture, Rheinmetall ICEYE Space Solutions GmbH, aimed at producing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites in Germany. This collaboration, formalized on November 7, 2025, follows a memorandum of understanding from May 2025 and reflects a commitment to enhance European defense sovereignty. Rheinmetall holds a 60% stake in the venture, which plans to utilize a repurposed automotive facility to deliver at least 40 SAR satellites by 2026. This development is significant for India, as enhanced ISR capabilities through SAR technology can support its strategic interests, particularly in cross-border surveillance, reinforcing partnerships with European defense sectors aligned with its security priorities.
