PTC Industries to supply indigenous titanium for M777 howitzer, boosting India's defense self-reliance.

PTC Industries, based in Lucknow, has commenced supplying indigenous titanium castings for the M777 Ultra-Lightweight Howitzer (ULH) under a significant partnership with BAE Systems. This development marks a milestone for India’s defence self-reliance, ensuring local production of critical titanium components such as spade trails and blades, vital for the exceptional lightweight and mobility of the M777, which weighs about 4.2 tonnes and is helicopter transportable. The production follows a two-year development and qualification process at PTC’s state-of-the-art facility, recently inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as part of India’s strategic push for “Make in India.” PTC Industries’ ability to produce aerospace-grade titanium castings strengthens long-term supply chain resilience and operational readiness for the Indian Army’s fleet of 145 howitzers deployed in sensitive mountainous regions. This step aligns with broader efforts to achieve technological sovereignty in defence materials and manufacturing. The company inaugurated the titanium plant in October 2025 and deliveries commenced in November 2025.
