Prachand Light Combat Helicopters to Get Advanced Safety Upgrades

India’s indigenous Prachand Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), will soon receive technological upgrades, including an obstacle avoidance system and directed infrared countermeasures (DIRCM), enhancing operational capabilities in challenging environments. The Ministry of Defence has contracted HAL for 156 helicopters, with deliveries to begin in 2027-28. These upgrades will bolster the LCH’s mission versatility, particularly in high-altitude operations like anti-tank warfare and counter-insurgency, while significantly increasing survivability against threats. The initiative reflects India’s growing confidence in its defense manufacturing capabilities, ensuring a robust and self-reliant defense posture.
