The Philippines Defence Ministry is increasingly interested in Indian underwater drones as a cost-effective alternative to conventional submarines, reflecting a strategic deepening of defence ties between New Delhi and Manila. This collaboration includes missile technology and naval systems, aimed at enhancing the Philippines’ maritime security amidst assertive Chinese activities. Indian underwater drones are viewed as a means to improve surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities without the high costs of traditional submarines, while also promoting technology transfer and co-production opportunities. This development signifies a shift towards advanced unmanned maritime systems and reinforces the growing India-Philippines defence cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
