Philippines Army to order BrahMos missiles after Marine Corps success.

The Philippine Army is set to order two additional batteries of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles from India, following the successful deployment of the system by the Philippine Marine Corps for coastal defense in April 2024. This move, confirmed by Army Chief General Romeo Brawner in late October 2025, is part of the Re-Horizon 3 modernization program, which aims to strengthen the country’s anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) posture amid rising tensions in the South China Sea. The BrahMos, with its range of up to 290 kilometers and high mobility, is seen as a key asset for defending the Philippines’ vast Exclusive Economic Zone, including contested areas like Scarborough Shoal. The acquisition reflects a strategic shift toward diversifying defense partnerships, with India emerging as a trusted supplier due to its competitive pricing, after-sales support, and willingness to offer flexible financing. This deepening defense relationship not only enhances the Philippines’ deterrence capabilities but also positions Manila as a leading regional operator of the BrahMos system, signaling a robust Indo-Pacific alignment against growing regional challenges.
