Philippines Army Considers India's Akash-1S for Air Defense Enhancement
The Philippine Army is interested in acquiring India’s Akash-1S air defense system, recognizing its success during Operation Sindoor against advanced threats like Pakistan’s Fatah-1 missiles. The Akash-1S, with a range of 25-45 km and altitude capability of 20 km, offers superior performance compared to the Israeli SPYDER system currently in use, especially against guided rockets and short-range ballistic missiles. Its proven combat efficiency, mobility, and integration with existing defense networks position it as a strategic asset for the Philippines, which aims to bolster its air defense in the face of rising regional tensions in the Indo-Pacific. This acquisition not only enhances military capability but also strengthens defense ties between India and the Philippines.
