MoD to Finalize ₹66,000-Crore Deal for 97 LCA Mk-1A Jets

The Indian Ministry of Defence is poised to finalize a significant ₹66,000-crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for 97 additional LCA Mk-1A fighter jets, enhancing the Indian Air Force’s capabilities and aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This deal, expected to be signed in October 2025, follows HAL’s delivery of the initial two jets from a prior order. The inclusion of GE Aerospace’s F404-IN20 engines will ensure the LCA Mk-1A remains a cutting-edge platform, bolstering India’s self-reliance in defense production and fostering technological innovation while reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. This strategic move highlights HAL’s growing role in India’s defense industry.
