MoD Pursues IAF Collaboration to Strengthen TEDBF Amid Challenges

The Ministry of Defence is exploring collaboration with the Indian Air Force to enhance the Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF) program amid financial and operational challenges, as the Indian Navy reduces its procurement from 140 to 80 units due to budget constraints. The proposed air force variant aims to optimize performance for land-based operations, promoting cost efficiency through a combined procurement strategy. However, the IAF remains focused on its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, viewing the TEDBF as a potential distraction. The situation reflects a critical balancing act between modernizing India’s naval air capabilities and maintaining strategic focus on next-generation fighter development.
