Metrea Prepares to Deliver KC-135 Stratotanker to India’s IAF
In a significant enhancement of its aerial refueling capabilities, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to welcome its first Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, repurposed from the French Air Force by U.S.-based Metrea. This transfer, part of a wet-lease arrangement with India’s Ministry of Defence, addresses critical serviceability challenges with the IAF’s existing Il-78MKI fleet. The KC-135 will be stationed at Agra Air Force Station, facilitating probe-and-drogue refueling for aircraft like the Su-30MKI and Rafale, thus bolstering the IAF’s operational readiness. This initiative reflects India’s commitment to modernizing its air force and underscores the strategic partnership with the U.S. in enhancing defense capabilities amidst evolving regional security dynamics.
