Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu Government to explore the development of a state-of-the-art greenfield shipyard on India’s eastern coast, aligning with the Government of India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The MoU was executed on September 19, 2025, during an event organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, with key officials in attendance. This initiative is expected to bolster the country’s maritime capabilities and enhance domestic shipbuilding, thereby contributing to India’s strategic defense infrastructure. The establishment of the shipyard underscores the government’s commitment to advancing the defense manufacturing sector, fostering local economic growth, and ensuring a robust maritime presence in the region.
